Book Formatting / interior design
Once your book is done being edited, you’re almost ready for print.
Prior to submitting your book to a printer, you will need to know exactly how you want the finished product to look when your readers actually get to hold it. This means you will need to have your book sized and formatted—meaning you will want to determine a book size, a font, and layout (internal design).
Don’t underestimate this step in the publishing process. Book layout is one of the major factors that can impact the success of your book. And there’s a lot more that goes into designing the interior of a book than you might expect.
The interior design of a book is one of those things you typically don’t even think about if you’re a first-time author. It’s also one of those things that your readers won’t even recognize … unless it’s wrong. So, it’s important to get it right. If you’ve ever opened a book and something felt wrong or off about the page, it was most likely the book formatting/design that was throwing it off. Poor formatting can result in losing readers and even getting bad reviews for your book simply because the interior design was subpar.
The interior design of your book will vary depending on the type of book you are writing or creating. For example, if you are writing a children’s book, the layout will more than likely include images and pictures; it will likely be colorful with large font, while not having too much text. Different genres have different rules with which they generally align. We can stick to those rules, or we can discuss them and decide to make your book stand uniquely your own. There are many other layout decisions in a print book that will influence the way readers experience your content as well.
As your book designer, here are some design decisions with which I will be able to assist in making your book interior visually appealing:
Once we’ve teamed up to format your book to your satisfaction, I will send a PDF proof for approval, after which it will be ready for sending to a printing company. With a focus on consistency and attention to detail, I’m excited and look forward to the challenge of making your book’s interior design stand out along with your book cover design!
Price varies based on size, page count, complexity of layout, etc.
